LiDAR

LiDARLight Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) is a laser system that sends out narrow pulses or beams of lights. The returning light is then counted and processed by a receiver.

LiDAR in an aerial platform collects information that defines the surface of the earth by sweeping back and forth as the aircraft is in motion. The resulting point data forms a surface model showing the heights of all buildings and other objects on the ground, as well as a bare earth surface. The bare earth data set can be used to support the production of digital orthophotography or contours.

Sidwell uses LiDAR technology for large projects that require information quickly and for areas that are inaccessible or difficult to measure using other methods. LiDAR can also penetrate tree and vegetation cover. It is unaffected by sunlight or temperature, making it possible to collect data at night.
