St. Charles, Il. – The Sidwell Company, a St. Charles, Illinois-based provider of geographic information systems (GIS) solutions, and photogrammetric mapping services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Melvin J. Obbink as their GIS Account Manager for the company’s Minnesota sales efforts. In this capacity, Mr. Obbink will provide technical information and consultation to existing and prospective clients on GIS and related mapping products and services and on GIS computer hardware and software.
Mr. Obbink has extensive experience in the fields of property assessment and appraisal. Starting as an appraiser in 1971, he spent more than 35 years in the assessment field in the state of Iowa. He became the Sioux County Assessor in 1975, later moving to Ames, Iowa, where he filled the position of Deputy Assessor for the City of Ames, eventually becoming the Assessor for this city. In 1980, Mr. Obbink made the move to Sioux City, Iowa, where he became Assessor, a position he held until November, 2006. Playing an integral role in the development of Sioux City’s GIS, Mr. Obbink and his staff were given the Special Achievement in GIS Award by industry leader ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) of Redlands, California, in 2004.
