The Sidwell Company, a St. Charles, Illinois-based provider of geographic information systems, aerial photography and mapping services, has been awarded a contract by Humboldt County, Iowa for development of a comprehensive countywide GIS. The contract includes establishing and installation of a set of permanent 3-D survey monuments, creation of color digital orthophotography, and conversion of the county's existing digital cadastral database. Also included in the contract are tax and appraisal system integration, plotting services, Sidwell's Parcel Builder™ software and software training, and related professional services.
GIS gives users the ability to combine and manage graphics and attribute databases in a digital environment and facilitate the input, storage, retrieval, and analysis of geographically referenced information. GIS for Humboldt County can have an influence on virtually every county department or agency (and beyond), and can serve as the foundation for development of many diverse applications. The proposed GIS project is a logical extension of the current mapping services provided to Humboldt County by The Sidwell Company. This project will be an important and significant enhancement of the current mapping system and services that the County receives from Sidwell. A countywide GIS project will effectively serve users at all levels both now and in the future.
