Engineering, planning and development projects begin with precision aerial photography. More than just a pretty picture, aerial imagery forms the foundation for accurate measurements or the development of a variety of products designed to assist the project manager in need of land use, physical feature, surface model and volumetric data. Aerial photography is an historical record of a moment in time and can be presented for viewing by the end user or interpreted by Sidwell photogrammetrists to develop maps and reports. Some common applications include:

  • Photo interpretation of a project site
  • Land use studies
  • Court exhibits
  • Mosaicked wall displays
  • Storm Management
  • Topographic or planimetric mapping
  • Digital orthophotography production
  • Volumetric inventories

The Sidwell aircraft is equipped with all current GPS navigation, flight management software and autopilot systems giving us the ability to secure excellent, accurate and affordable photography. Sidwell maintains multiple precision Zeiss aerial mapping cameras in three focal lengths giving us the flexibility to match the camera with the client's application. Our RMK TOP camera has forward motion compensation (FMC) to assure that ground features will not blur on the film due to aircraft movement while the shutter is open.

Airborne GPS equipment on board the aircraft allows Sidwell to capture the camera position at the moment of exposure. This process uses Global Positioning System (GPS) survey equipment and satellite data to compute the horizontal and vertical position of the exposed aerial negative. This has great benefit for large projects by reducing the amount of required field surveyed control and strengthening the mathematical solution in subsequent production processes. The benefit to you is economy and accuracy.

Aerial photography can be provided to you as a hard copy or digital product that is ready to be viewed using standard software. We have a complete photographic laboratory for conventional products and a variety of options for digital printing. Sidwell also maintains a large film library to meet your needs for stock imagery or historical data.
