How Sidwell Guided Randolph County’s Move to ArcGIS Pro
Randolph County is situated in southwestern Illinois and has a population of 30,000. In the Spring of 2024, Sidwell worked with the Randolph County Assessor’s Office on a comprehensive migration from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro. We had been supporting their office for many years on their ArcMap workflows. This included the ArcMap Parcel Fabric, and our Parcel Administrator and FARMS solutions.
Chris Koester, Supervisor of Assessments, had decided the time had come to move their staff and operations to ArcGIS Pro, given the deprecation of ArcMap. Originally, they had planned to do this via attending general ArcGIS Pro training that is available to the public. Sidwell worked with Chris to design a migration entirely based on their workflows and ArcGIS environment, which centered around training specifically for their needs. The client saw this as a much better value, which would ensure a successful roadmap and adoption of ArcGIS Pro as the end-goal.
Sidwell’s staff was able to replicate Randolph County’s existing ArcMap task and workflows via configuring tasks in ArcGIS Pro. Illustrating the power of tasks in Pro, we were able to handle their needs via 3 tasks; no custom code or other software development was needed.
We conducted training in-person, for the staff in the Assessor’s office, plus several other departments. The training was done over 3 days, and covered standard ArcGIS Pro workflows as well as the 3 configured tasks mentioned above. Sidwell also upgraded the County’s Parcel Fabric from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro, and provided Pro training on Parcel Fabric editing and data management workflows. We also provided some follow-up training a few weeks later, in which we addressed any and all questions the County’s staff had after their initial phase of using ArcGIS Pro daily.
