Our Employee Spotlight for the month of July is Mark Kemper!
As our GIS Project Manager, Mark supports all phases of Sidwell’s efforts to implement GIS projects and provide ongoing client support after project completion including:
- Parcel numbering system design and implementation
- GIS project planning
- Database design and implementation
- Client training on GIS software operations
- Analysis and design of GIS, cadastral and land records workflows
- Training in the use of cadastral GIS
- Aerial photography and orthophotography
- Analysis and use of GIS for farmland assessment
Q & A
What’s an interesting project you worked on in the past? Why?
Lake County, IN. The scope of this project was immense. We provided GIS and data creation/collection services to eleven departments over the course of eight years. The end result was the client deploying and using a true ESRI-based enterprise GIS. It is used daily by numerous staff as well as the public.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working? (hobbies?)
Drag racing, military history, and sports.
What’s your favorite thing about GIS?
The ability to visualize data in meaningful ways to solve real works issues.
If you had different plans in mind as you were growing up, what were they?
Electrical Engineer.
What do you enjoy most about your job and/or working at Sidwell?
The people, both Sidwell staff and our clients. We have an amazing group of talented people here and our clients are wonderful. We don’t exist without them. I get a lot of satisfaction in helping our clients succeed with their GIS projects.
What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I’m pretty good at ping pong.
If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Cobalt blue.
